ERIE, Pa. – The major home event of the season is almost here for the Gannon University competitive cheer and dance teams.

Coach Kerri Makay, her assistants, and the Golden Knights will host the program's marquee event of the year, the Road to Daytona Showcase, on Saturday afternoon at the Highmark Events Center.

Gannon will host seven other teams in the annual tune-up for the NCA & NDA College Nationals at Daytona Beach, Fla., on April 6-8. Also competing will be Alfred University, Edinboro University, Elmira College, the Ohio State Club team, Penn State Behrend, Saint Joseph's University, and Thiel College.

SENIOR DAY

The competition will also double as Senior Day as Gannon recognizes the following eight seniors: Milton Bond (Amityville, N.Y./Holy Trinity High School), Jaelyn Brookbank (Girard, Ohio/Girard), Sydney Davis (Stanley, N.Y./Marcus Whitman Central), Michael Formanski (Erie, Pa.), Kate Halapin (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes High School), Rylee Kline (Saint Marys, Pa./Saint Marys), Taylor Lindsey (Erie, Pa./Northwest Collegiate Academy), and Maura Sullivan (East Aurora, N.Y./Iroquois Central).

Doors open at noon on Saturday, and Gannon will honor those eight seniors before the showcase at 12:30 p.m. The competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the Dance portion of the meet. After a brief intermission, the Cheer performances will start at 2:25 p.m.

MAKE-A-WISH

The Road to Daytona Showcase also serves as the Gannon competitive cheer and dance program's main Make-A-Wish fundraiser for the season.

The event is free to spectators. However, in lieu of an entry fee, Gannon kindly requests that spectators consider donating to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We will have volunteers stationed at each entrance with collection buckets.

There are other ways that fans will be able to help the cause, including a 50/50 Raffle.

The winner of the Make-A-Wish 50/50 Raffle will be announced at about 3:50 p.m.

The meet will then close with an Awards Ceremony at 4 p.m.

GANNON'S EVENTS

Gannon will compete in four events as it prepares for Nationals.

The Golden Knights will perform in Hip Hop Dance (1 p.m.), Team Performance Dance (1:50 p.m.), Gannon Coed (3:05 p.m.), and Game Day (3:45 p.m.).
