THE GANNON-SIENA HEIGHTS ALL-TIME SERIES
First Meeting

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's wrestling team will compete in its final duals of the 2022-23 season in preparation for the upcoming NCWWC Northeast Regional on Saturday, February 18. The No. 8 Golden Knights will face No. 12 Adrian and Siena Heights on Tuesday, February 7 in the Adrian Duals. The first match gets underway at 6:30 p.m. and the second at 7:45 p.m.

The Golden Knights are ranked eighth in the latest NWCA NCAA Women's Wrestling rankings while Adrian is 12th. Adrian has a 6-5 record while Siena Heights comes in with a 12-7 ledger. Gannon and Adrian have met on four previous occasions, with each team winning twice. Gannon wrestles Siena Heights for the first time.
Gannon comes off a strong showing at the PA State Championships, finishing second out of 12 teams. Three Golden Knights -- Chloe Kitagawa (Aliso Viejo, Calif./Aliso Niguel) (101 lbs.), Samira Stephens (Geismar, La./Dutchtown) (155 lbs.), and Jewel Gonzalez (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) (170 lbs.) – took home first-place finishes.

Second-year head coach Breonnah Neal has a young lineup spiced with some experience. Four Golden Knights appear in the latest NWCA rankings, led by sophomore Julianne Moccia (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll). Moccia is ranked fourth at 109 lbs. with a 15-6 record that includes 10 falls. She earned All-American honors as a freshman thanks to a seventh-place finish, ending the year with a 23-9 record. She placed third at the ESU Open and sixth at the Missouri Valley Open earlier this year.

Jewel Gonzalez (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) is next, ranked sixth at 170 lbs. The junior has enjoyed a solid return to the mat after not wrestling since the 2020-21 season. She owns a 14-7 record after her first-place showing at the PA State Tournament and has a second-place finish to her credit at the ESU Open.

Gonzalez is one of two Golden Knights ranked at 170 lbs., with Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) a spot behind her in seventh place. Helm has an 14-8 record and came in second at the PA State Tournament, losing by decision to Gonzalez in the finals.

Lana Perez (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) has been in and out of the NWCA rankings this year, and the junior is currently ranked eighth at 136 lbs. with a 10-6 record and seven falls. She recently was named the NWCA Wrestler of the Month for December. However, Perez is not in Tuesday's lineup.

Neal has relied on a solid recruiting class with four freshmen seeing considerable action. Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) leads the way with an 18-9 record while competing at 143 lbs. Jayden Bazemore (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Ranch) had been another regular at 136 lbs. but has moved down to 123 lbs. She has compiled a 13-12 record with 10 falls and took second place at the PA State Tournament. Kitagawa has a 9-3 record as the starter at 101 lbs. Stephens is a fourth freshman in the lineup after recently taking over at 155 lbs.
Adrian has a pair of wrestlers in the NWCA rankings. Clarissa Agostini is fifth at 143 lbs. while Nyla Burgess is eighth at 155 lbs.
