Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) led the way as Gannon Women's Wrestling concluded the final day of Super Region II, capturing the 180-pound championship and securing her spot at the national tournament on Saturday.
As a team, the Golden Knights finished seventh overall in the Super Region II standings, totaling 53.5 points. Lehigh claimed the team championship with 151.5 points.
Phillips capped a dominant run with a convincing 10-1 decision over Azariah Moore in the 180-pound championship bout. Earlier in the round, the sophomore advanced with a 12-0 technical fall in the semifinal.Â
With the title run, Phillips improved to 27-6 overall on the season and continues to lead the team with 14 technical falls. The championship marked her second win this season over Moore and officially punched her ticket to the 2026 NC Women's Wrestling Championship.Â
For the second consecutive season, Phillips has qualified for the national championship and finished the tournament with a 3-0 record.
Only the top three finishers in each weight class earned qualification to nationals. At 138 pounds,
Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) battled through the bracket and earned a fourth-place finish, falling just short of securing a national berth. Ujfalvi rebounded from a semifinal loss with a decision victory in the consolation round before dropping the third-place bout and closed the tournament with a 3-2 record.
At 207 pounds,
Kamila Castro (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridhewood) narrowly missed a trip to nationals. The freshman rebounded from an early loss with a dominant technical fall in the consolation bracket before finishing fourth overall. Competing in her first season at the collegiate level, Castro put together an impressive regional showing and closed the tournament with a 2-2 record.
Gannon also saw competitive action at 160 pounds, where
Rose Cassioppi (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) reached the championship round before falling by technical fall and was forced to medically forfeit the remainder of the tournament. Cassioppi finished the event with a 1-1 record.
Phillips will represent Gannon at the 2026 NC Women's Wrestling Championship, scheduled for March 6–7 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
This season marks the inaugural year of the NC Women's Wrestling Championships after women's wrestling was officially added as the NCAA's 91st championship sport in January 2025.
