YORK, Pa. –  The Gannon University women's swimming and diving team remained in fourth place in the overall team standings (550 total points) at the 2023 PSAC Swimming Championships for the third consecutive night and is within striking distance of third-place Bloomsburg (609 points.)
The Golden Knights opened up the evening session with a great race in the 200 medley relay from Zoey Beck (Grove City, Pa.), Hannah Jacobs (Johannesburg, South Africa), Alex Pannemann (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley), and Nomvula Mjimba (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Wykeham Collegiate). The foursome posted a 1:46.87, good for fifth place in the event, but just barely missed out on the school record of 1:46.40 that was set during the 2013-14 season.
Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) qualified for the "A" final of the first individual race of the night—the 500 freestyle—finishing seventh in 5:07.17. Three other Golden Knights swam the "C" final, with Chenay Date Line (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College Sandton) earning 17th place (5:10.45), Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege) in 19th (5:13.71), and Hailey Yurkovich (Elizabeth, Pa.) in 20th (5:16.43.)
The duo of Beck and Leilani Kunf (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) swam the "B" final of the 100 backstroke, with Beck winning the heat in 59.04 for ninth place and Kunf ending up in 12th with a time of 59.60. Gabriela McAllister (Waterford, Pa.) swam in the "C" final, earning 20th place in 1:01.50.
Freshman Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the lone Gannon representative in the 100 breaststroke finals, swimming the "C" final and finishing in 24th place (1:08.79.)
The 200 butterfly featured Francesca Nemetz (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) in the "A" final, who battled through an extremely tough field to claim eighth place in 2:11.04. Jacobs, who swam in the relay earlier in the night, notched a time of 2:13.80 to claim 13th place. Â Â
