Martinez Captures First Place in Playoff as Golden Knights Repeat as Champions at Evann Parker Invitational

NORTH EAST, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team coasted to its second straight title in Mercyhurst's Evann Parker Invitational on Saturday. Wind, rain and even hail greeted the golfers during the final 18 holes, but the Golden Knights weren't impacted while winning by 15 strokes over Walsh.

The Gannon A team finished with a team total of 622 (+46), shooting a team total of 309 on Saturday. Walsh shot 319 on Saturday to finish at 637 (+61). Mercyhurst was third at 659 and the Gannon B team brought home fourth place at 676.

Not only did Gannon win the team title but Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) was the individual champion, winning in a playoff over Walsh's Sydney Hugo. Both finished at 6-over par 150, with Martinez shooting 76 on Saturday. It was the first career title for Martinez.

They headed to the 18^th hole. Martinez' tee shot found the fairway while Hugo found the right rough. She was forced to punch out into the fairway while Martinez left a nine-iron just short of the green. Hugo's third shot came up 25 feet from the pin, but Martinez putted from the fringe to within three feet. The junior sank the par putt Hugo would tap in for bogey.

Gannon's Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) took home third place with back-to-back 76's for a total of 152 (+8). Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) was also in the top five coming in fifth with a 75 on Saturday for a 157 total (+13).

Head coach Scott Stano's squad has little time to celebrate. They are back on the course on Sunday, hosting the two-day Michael Corbett Fall Invitational at Whispering Woods Golf Club.
