ERIE, Pa. – After opening the fall season with three consecutive out-of-state tournaments, the Gannon women's golf team will play a pair of tournaments in Erie County this weekend, including their own fall event.

Weather could play a factor this weekend as rain and wind are forecasted through much of northwestern Pennsylvania.

Coach Scott Stano's team is off to a strong start to the fall season with second-place finishes in tournaments in Charleston, W.Va., and Columbus, Ohio, and a strong, fifth-place outing in last weekend's William Beall Fall Classic in Findlay, Ohio.

This weekend, however, Gannon golfers will be familiar with the courses and have excelled there in the past.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to open the weekend at Lake View Country Club for Mercyhurst's Evann Parker Memorial on Friday and Saturday. Gannon won the tournament by 28 strokes last season as Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) claimed the individual title on her birthday, and Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) placed third.

Gannon will then host the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Sunday and Monday at Whispering Woods Golf Club. The Knights placed second in the 2022 tournament, which was shortened to one day because of rain. Franklin Pierce, which won by two strokes last season, is not entered in this year's event.

Gannon will enter an A Team and six individuals in the Mercyhurst tournament. The other teams are expected to be Mercyhurst, Seton Hill, California (Pa.), Notre Dame College, Shepherd, Millersville, West Chester, Lake Erie, Walsh, West Liberty, and Penn State Behrend.

The Michael Corbett Fall Classic is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday and Monday. The tournament is named after Gannon's former Director of Athletics, successful softball coach, and Athletics Hall of Fame member.
 
Gannon's lineup for the event is yet to be determined.
 
Other teams tentatively scheduled to compete in Gannon's tourney are Mercyhurst, Ohio Dominican, Charleston, Millersville, West Chester, Clarion, Malone, Allegheny, Shepherd, and Seton Hill.
