FINDLAY, Ohio – Gannon golfers set a couple of program records with continued strong play in the final round the University of Findlay's William Beall Fall Classic on Tuesday.
The Golden Knights broke a team record with a score of 918 over 54 holes on the Findlay Country Club course as they placed fifth among a talented, 14-team field. That total was 35 strokes better than Gannon's previous record for a 54-hole event. The GU women's golf team set the previous record of 953 at the 2021-22 PSAC Championships.
All 12 rounds that counted toward Gannon's scoring total over the two-day event were in the 70s, ranging from 72 to 79.
Coach
Scott Stano's team was in fifth place after 36 holes on Monday, the opening day of the event. On Tuesday, Gannon stayed solidly in fifth with a round of 307 as four Knights scored in the 70s.
Indianapolis won the tournament with a 16-over 880, and host Findlay placed second with 887.
Juniors
Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) and
Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) led Gannon with program-record performances. They tied for 14th among 84 players with identical totals of 11-over 227. Their score was four shots better than Julia Santo's previous standard of 231 set in the 2018-19 PSAC Championships.
Martinez closed with a 76 on Tuesday after shooting 78 and 73 in the first two rounds, respectively. Â Petersen shot 72-76-79 on her way to the 227 total.
Senior
Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) tied for 36th with 235, and
Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) tied for 39th with 236.
Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) led Gannon with a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday. She moved up to 45th in the standings with a total of 239 (82-83-74).
