ERIE, Pa. – Last week the Gannon men's water polo team headed to the east coast for a trio of games vs. Division I opponents. The Golden Knights played on Friday at Mount St. Mary's then headed to New York City for a pair of games. In the morning they played LIU followed by an afternoon game at No. 17 Fordham.

Now first-year head coach Zarko Sadikovic's team makes the long journey to the West Coast for a pair of matches. Now 6-4 after defeating LIU and losing to Mount St. Mary's and Fordham, play at Cal Lutheran on Thursday, October 19 then have a game at Biola on Friday, October 20.

The Golden Knights returned to the pool this past weekend after a near three-week layoff. Now they are in the midst of a hectic schedule that continues next weekend when they host the WWPA Erie Classic on October 28-29. Gannon will play three times over the two-day period.

Cal Lutheran currently has a 4-13 record and has lost seven straight matches. Gannon last played the Kingsmen in 2018 when Sadikovic was a player for the Golden Knights. Biola has a 15-11 record but the Eagles sit atop the WWPA West Region standings with a perfect 3-0 ledger. This will be the first meeting between the two teams.

Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh) has not suffered a sophomore slump as he is off to a fast start. He had 10 goals and four assists this weekend and is now up to 41 goals and 13 assists for 54 points. The native of Greece challenged the school record for goals as a freshman last year despite missing the final seven matches. He finished with 70 goals and was second in points with 93. He was an honorable mention All-MAWPC selection last year.

Marty Kaverman Jr. (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added goals in the eastern swing to boost his totals to 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points. Seth Johnson (Sugar Hill, Ga./Lanier) has 14 goals while Ben Fribourg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) and Vladimir Mickic (Subotica, Serbia/Nikola Tesla) are also in double figures with 12 goals apiece. Matthew Harkrader adds 11 assists.

After sharing time in goal the last two years Alvaro Marco (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) has taken over as the full-time goalkeeper. The junior has a 12.05 GAA with a .459 save percentage.
