Petersen, Gannon Hold Large Leads After First Day of Competition at Clarion Fall Invitational

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team holds a 19-stroke lead after the first day of competition at the Clarion Fall Invitational. Clarion is hosting the six-team tournament at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville, Pa. The tournament is the final of the fall campaign for head coach Scott Stano's squad.

The Golden Knights finished with a total of 314 (+26) to easily outdistance second-place Mercyhurst. The Lakers are at 333 (+45). Host Clarion is third at 347 (+59).

On a day that saw intermittent sunshine and rain only two golfers shot under 80. Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) carded a brilliant even-par 72 and holds a seven-stroke lead over teammate Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep), who came in at 79. Petersen opened her round on the first hole and birdied four of the first five holes to finish at 3-under 34 on the front nine.

Cloe Mateo (Sabadell, Spain/Montcau la Mola) is among a trio of golfers tied for third after shooting an 81 (+9). She had a pair of birdies on her round.

Three other Golden Knights are in the top 10 in the 36 golfer field. Victoria Colmenares (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/ICL Academy) shot an 82 (+10), good for sixth place, while Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) and Emily Donahue (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) each shot 83 (+11) and are tied for seventh. Donahue is playing as an individual, as is Zoey McClain (Erie, Pa./McDowell). McClain is 15th with an 87 (+15).

The teams will have a shotgun tee off at 9:30 a.m. on Monday for the final 18 holes.
