Women's swimming and diving wraps up busy weekend, wins each event in 237-44 victory over Penn State Behrend

The Golden Knights improve their overall dual meet record to 2-3

ERIE, Pa. – Less than 24 hours after a dual meet win at home against Edinboro, the Gannon University women's swimming and diving team traveled the short distance to compete in another dual with Penn State Behrend, winning each event of the afternoon en route to a 237-44 victory. The win is Gannon's second consecutive dual meet victory and improves the team's overall record to 2-3 in 2022-23.
 
The women's first event win was in the 200 medley relay from the quartet of Hailey Yurkovich (Elizabeth, Pa.), Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege), Francesca Nemetz (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area), and Chenay Date Line (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College Sandton) in 1:57.36. The 100 butterfly featured an incredibly close finish, with Gannon's Gabriella McAllister touching the wall first in 1:02.89, just three hundredths quicker than teammate Alexandra Pannemann's 1:02.92.
 
Other individual event wins came from Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) in the 1000 free, Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 200 free, Date Line in the 100 back, Paige Johnson (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) in the 100 breast, Yurkovich in the 200 fly and 500 free, Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa) in the 50 and 100 free, Nemetz in the 200 back and 400 IM, and van de Goor in the 200 breast.
 
The diving portion of the event began on the one-meter boards, with Kyla Miller (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) earning first place with a total of 214.10. Teammates Nicole Spiegel (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) (174.00, second) and Madeline Kless (Highland Heights, Ohio/Mayfield) (162.05) were right behind, while Behrend's Julia Sank finished fourth with a 149.10. Miller also finished first in three-meter diving with a score of 209.05, with Spiegel's 130.50 the only other total of the event. Additional one-meter dives were logged in event 33, with Miller notching a total of 154.25.
 
The women's team also wrapped up the swimming portion of the dual with a win in the 400 free relay by Dietz, Sam Young (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview), Pannemann, and Leilani Kunf (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) in a time of 3:48.31.
 
The Golden Knights return to action in a week's time with a trip to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Jan. 28 for a dual meet beginning at 11:30 a.m.
