ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women's swimming and diving team won eight of the 12 events, including two school record and two wins by
Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege), as the Golden Knights defeated Edinboro 145-78 on Friday at Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool.
On Senior Day, the Golden Knights recognized two seniors –
Leilani Kunf (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) and
Sam Young (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) – who were swimming their final home meets for Gannon. Kunf contributed one of the wins by touching first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.92.

Van de Goor, meanwhile, won two distance events and set a pool record with a first-place time of 17:49.43 in the 1650 freestyle. That topped the previous record by about 18 seconds. The junior also won the 500 freestyle in 5:14.64.
Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.),
Nomvula Mjimba (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Wykeham Collegiate), and
Kyla Miller (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) were also individual winners for Gannon.
Dietz won the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:14.03 and added a second-place effort in the 200 backstroke.
Mjimba used a strong finish to place first in the 100 freestyle, touching in 54.61. She also took second place in the 50 free.
Miller emerged as the winner in the diving competition with a six-dive score of 238.95.
Gannon also was victorious in the two relays. The 400 medley relay opened the meet in fantastic fashion, setting a pool record of 4:02.39.Â
Zoey Beck (Grove City, Pa.), Dietz,
Hannah Jacobs (Johannesburg, South Africa), and
Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa) teamed up to win the event.
The Golden Knights also closed the meet by winning the 200 free relay in 1:39.73. Alexandra Pannemann, Mjimba,
Gabriela McAllister (Waterford, Pa.), and
Lily Cunningham (Lavista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista) combined to pull out the win in that event and cap the team victory as Gannon improved to 1-3 on the season.
Stephanie Sipple had two of the four wins for Edinboro (2-5), winning to the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly.
Gannon will not have long to rest after Friday's meet. The Knights will visit Penn State Behrend on Saturday at 1 p.m.
