No. 18 Golden Knights Improve to 2-0-0 with 4-1 Win at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Gannon University men's soccer team won its second straight game on the young season to improve to 2-0-0, completing its two-game eastern swing with a 4-1 win at Goldey-Beacom on Sunday afternoon. The Lightning is now 0-2-0. Gannon is ranked 18th in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Preseason Poll.
 
The Golden Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead and were never threatened after that. They scored twice in the span of 76 seconds. Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, assisted by Sverre Orten (Orsta, Norway). The senior took a crossing pass from Orten and converted from five yards out.  
 
The lead grew quickly to 2-0 as Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) beat goalkeeper Oscar Tengmark at the 24:23 mark. The Golden Knights would then benefit from a Goldey-Beacom error leading to an own goal at 31:12 for a 3-0 advantage.
 
Goldey-Beacom cut the deficit to 3-1 at the half thanks to a goal by Dominique Ojeil, assisted by Brandon Delgado, with just 21 seconds remaining in the half.
 
Junior Benjamin Querling (Zuelpich, Germany/Emil-Fischer Gymnasium) accounted for the lone goal of the second half with his third career goal at 71:12, with Orten credited with his second assist of the match. He found the back of the net from 15 yards out.
 
Gannon controlled the match, finishing with 19 shots to six for the Lightning. That included a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Gannon had six corner kicks compared to one for Goldey-Beacom.
 
David Synstelien (Gjovik, Norway/Gjovik Vinderegaende) finished with two saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.Tengmark had three saves.
 
Gannon concludes its three-game road trip to start the season on Wednesday, August 31, playing at Ashland. The contest gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
