Stevens Scores Four Goals in Loss at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool) scored four goals to lead Gannon in a 24-8 loss at Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon. The loss leaves the Golden Knights at 5-10 overall and 3-7 in the PSAC West. Slippery Rock improved to 9-6 overall and 5-5 in the conference. Gannon earned a split with the Rock after winning 16-15 in March.

In addition to Stevens, Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) added a pair of goals while McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) had a goal and an assist and Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) scored one goal. Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was credited with an assist. With the four goals Stevens takes over the team lead with 37 goals. Eleven different players scored for SRU, with Katie Dlugosz accounting for eight goals and an assist.

Slippery Rock ended with a 41-14 advantage in shots. The Rock was able to control play thanks to a 26-9 edge in draw controls. Gannon was 9-of-12 in clears and SRU 11-of-13. Gannon committed 13 turnovers and SRU 11.

The Rock scored the first goal less then a minute into the contest, but Woodworth tied the contest at 1-1 at 10:31, assisted by Tufts. SRU held a 6-2 lead after one quarter and scored the next two goals for an 8-2 lead less than three minutes into the second period. Gannon scored four of the next five goals, three by Stevens, as the Golden Knights pulled to within 9-6.

SRU scored the final four goals of the second quarter, however, for a 13-6 lead at the half. The Rock outscored Gannon 8-0 in the third quarter to quell any Gannon comeback hopes.

Gannon returns to action on Saturday, April 23 at Seton Hill before concluding the season at Mercyhurst on Saturday, April 30.
