Pirosko's 25, Lock Down Defense Lead Gannon to Road Win at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – Gannon used lock down defense and a 25-point scoring performance from Samantha Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) to roll to a 66-54 road win over Edinboro on Monday evening at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
With the win, Gannon improves to 19-5 overall, including 14-5 in PSAC play. Edinboro fell to 11-9 overall and 9-8 in league play. Gannon dealt Edinboro just its second home loss of the season as the 'Scots are now 9-2 on the year at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Lady Knights allowed just 18 field goals and forced 18 turnovers on the defensive end, which led to 22 points on the offensive end. For the game, Edinboro shot just 30.5 percent (18-of-59), including a dismal 6-of-22 from behind the arc. The 'Scots also connected on just 12-of-20 attempts from the free throw line.
 
Gannon held a 40-33 rebounding advantage.
 
On the offensive end, Pirosko finished the game with 25 points, five rebounds and three steals. She shot 9-of-18 from the field and made two 3-pointers. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) also reached double figures with 10 points and six rebounds. In addition, Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) stuffed the stat sheet for the Knights with nine points, six rebounds, five steals, three assists and three steals. Gannon also got eight points and five rebounds from Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) in the post.
 
Gannon recorded an assist on 12 of its 24 baskets, getting six assists from Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance). Poling also chipped in six points, five rebounds, two steals and one block. Emma Wright (Fairview, Pa./Talawanda) added five points and five rebounds.
 
The Knights shot 49 percent from the floor (24-of-49) and made six 3-pointers in the victory.
 
Gannon led by as many as 23 (56-33) at the 7:39 mark of the fourth quarter as Edinboro scored 21 of its points in the fourth quarter, including a 9-2 scoring run in the final 1:55 of the game. Edinboro score just 33 points in the first three quarters of play.
 
Gannon will now travel to Clarion on Wednesday evening for another PSAC West matchup. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. Monday night's Edinboro game was Gannon's first of three in a row on the road.
