Gannon pursues first place, No. 1 seed during final weekend of regular season

GU women's volleyball team to visit IUP, Clarion with top playoff positioning at stake

With the postseason approaching, the Gannon women's volleyball team will be competing in a playoff atmosphere this weekend as it tries to secure first place in the PSAC West regular season and a No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

The Golden Knights visit third-place Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. match against Clarion in the regular-season finale.

The Golden Knights (21-5 overall) and Golden Eagles (23-2 overall) are both 13-1 in the PSAC West and tied for first place going into the weekend. (Clarion will host Edinboro on Friday.) If Gannon and Clarion both win Friday, their match on Saturday will decide first place in the PSAC West and the No. 1 seed for the PSAC Tournament. Both teams will host PSAC quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The weekend features three of the top teams in the latest Atlantic Region rankings: No. 1 Clarion, No. 3 Gannon, and No. 6 IUP.

The Golden Knights have won nine matches in a row and 15 of their past 16. Their only loss in that stretch came against Clarion, which swept Gannon 3-0 on Oct. 7 at Highmark Events Center.

Gannon swept IUP in their only meeting this season on Oct. 8 at Highmark Events Center.
