CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Gannon University women's swimming and diving team opened up competition at day one of Cleveland State's annual Magnus Cup meet with multiple strong swims and five swimmers qualifying for the finals during the evening session.
Chenay Date Line (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College Sandton) began the morning prelims with a stellar time in the 500 freestyle (5:06.95, a PSAC qualifying time), just about a second-and-a-half slower than Silvija Taraska's school record of 5:05.30 set in the 2020-21 season. Date Line qualified for the evening's "B" final and finished in 19
th place.
Three other Golden Knights qualified for the finals in the 500 free, with
Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) clocking a 5:08.70 and touching the wall second in the "D" final for 32
nd place.
Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege) (35
th, 5:12.48) and
Francesca Nemetz (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) (39
th, 5:17.18) also swam in that final, with all three times attaining PSAC qualification as well.
Freshman
Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was the Knights' lone representative in the 200 IM finals, swimming a 2:11.54 (a PSAC qualifying time) in the "D" final and finishing in 38
th place.
In the relays, the women's top quartet in the 200 freestyle was a 20
th place time of 1:37.69 from
Nomvula Mjimba (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Wykeham Collegiate),
Lily Cunningham (Lavista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista),
Leilani Kunf (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area), and Alexandra Pannemann.
The 400 medley relay team featured Kunf, Dietz, freshman
Hannah Jacobs (Johannesburg, South Africa), and
Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa) and finished 24
th with a time of 3:58.10.
The diving portion of the Magnus Cup was also held during day one competition. Full results will be reported later in the week.
