Women's swimming and diving wins six events in dual meet opener at Clarion

Freshman Isabella Dietz made her dual meet debut with wins in both breaststroke events

CLARION, Pa. – Gannon University women's swimming and diving opened the 2022-23 dual meet season with six first-place finishes against Clarion University but could not overcome the Golden Eagles' depth and fell in the team score, 151-110. Freshman Isabella Dietz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:10.63 and 2:33.65, respectively, and also claimed Gannon's top finish in the 200 IM (second place in 2:16.88.)

Other event winners included Sterre van de Goor (Oss, Netherlands/Sint-Joriscollege) in the 1000 freestyle (10:50.97, a new pool record at Clarion's Tippin Natatorium), Chenay Date Line (Johannesburg, South Africa/Crawford College Sandton) in the 200 free (2:00.68), Leilani Kunf (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport Area) in the 100 backstroke (1:02.10), and newcomer Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional)--a transfer from West Chester--who touched the wall first in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.60, also a new pool record. The Golden Knights went 1-2-3 in the 500 free, with Date Line (5:23.32) and van de Goor (5:25.48) rounding out the top three.

Myers also added a second place finish in the 1000 free, just 10 seconds back of van de Goor and about one second ahead of third-place Clarion freshman Joslyn Jurski.

The top three spots in the 200 free also went to Gannon, with Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa) (2:01.59) and Hailey Yurkovich (Elizabeth, Pa.) (2:02.27) finishing behind Date Line, all within three seconds of each other.

Gannon's relay performances included a third-place mark in the 400 medley relay (4:10.17) swam by Kunf, Dietz, Nomvula Mjimba (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Wykeham Collegiate), and Lily Cunningham (Lavista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista) as well as a second-place mark (1:43.00) in the 200 free relay by Zoey Beck (Grove City, Pa.), Alex Pannemann (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley), Mjimba, and Cunningham.
