Kotskar Scores Eight Goals as Gannon Earns Split with 23-9 Win over Penn State Behrend

PROVIDENCE, R.I.Alex Kotskar (Voula, Greece) scored eight goals and accounted for 10 points as the Gannon men's water polo team earned a split of its two matches on Saturday in the Harvard Invitational with a 23-9 win over Penn State Behrend. The day began with an 18-9 loss to Brown.

The Golden Knights are now 3-11 with the split. Saturday's contests were hosted by Brown in Providence, R.I. Now Gannon moves on to Cambridge, Mass. and Harvard for a pair of Sunday contests. Gannon plays Connecticut College at 9:00 a.m., then returns to the pool at 1:00 p.m. for a match with Massachusetts Institute of Technology.   

Brown 18, Gannon 9
Brown jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Gannon's Alex Kotskar (Voula, Greece) notched his first of five goals at the 3:12 mark. Kotskar would two more goals in the period with Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)) adding a goal as the Bears scored a late goal in the period for a 5-4 lead after eight minutes. Brown would dominate the action in the second period, outscoring Gannon 7-1, including the first five goals, to go into intermission with a 12-5 lead. The Bears followed that up with a 5-2 advantage in the third period. Gannon held a narrow 29-28 lead in shots, but Brown shot 62.1 percent while Gannon came in at 32.;1 percent. Alex Kotskar (Voula, Greece) led the Golden Knights with five goals.

Gannon 23, Penn State Behrend 9
The Golden Knights scored a season-high 23 goals while picking up their third win of the season. Freshman Alex Kotskar (Voula, Greece) scored a season-high eight goals, adding two assists, to lead Gannon. Marty Kaverman Jr. (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added four goals and three assists with Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)) also scoring four times and assisting on one goal. Ben Fribourg (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) contributed three goals and two assists. Even goalkeeper Jacob Hollo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) got into the act with four assists. Hollo added 12 saves. Behrend scored the first goal of the match but Gannon scored the next five goals. Marjanovic scored three of the goals and Kotskar had a pair. The Lions scored the final two goals of the first period and Gannon led by just a pair of goals at 5-3 after eight minutes. Gannon added seven goals in the second period to take a 12-6 lead at intermission. The Gannon defense allowed just three second-half goals. The Golden Knights outshot Behrend 36-30 and had an impressive .639 hitting percentage.
