Men’s cross country earns USTFCCCA All-Academic honors with 15th-highest GPA nationally

Lehotsky, Mandel, Personius earn individual awards

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Gannon University men's cross country team finished the 2021 NCAA Division II cross country fall season with a cumulative GPA of 3.523 to earn U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors. That total ranks them 15th-highest among all Division II institutions and it marks the 17th consecutive season the Golden Knights have collected All-Academic team honors.

In order to qualify for All-Academic team honors, teams must combine for a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale—including the most recent grading period—and compile a team score at their respective NCAA regional championship meet.

Individually, Jacob Lehotsky (Erie, Pa./Fort LeBoeuf), Caleb Mandel (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek), and Ely Personius (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) were named 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes, three of the 275 total men from 98 different institutions to earn the honor. Lehotsky is pursuing a graduate degree in engineering, Mandel (who also earned the award as a freshman after the 2019 season) is enrolled in the physician's assistant program, and Personius is majoring in physical therapy.

In order to qualify for individual All-Academic honors, student-athletes must compile a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 30 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
