No. 6 Gannon Wins 5th Dual In A Row At Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Gannon men's wrestling team won eight of 10 bouts on Wednesday evening and stretched its current dual-meet winning streak to five with a 36-6 victory over Seton Hill. The win helped Gannon improve to 5-0 against Division II programs and the Knights also remained unbeaten in PSAC competition with a 4-0 mark.

Jacob Dunlop (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Vernon) got the Knights on the board at 125 lbs. as the 11th-ranked (InterMat) standout earned a hard-fought 4-3 decision over Seton Hill's Frank Bonura to open the dual. Dunlop improved to 15-2 on the year with the victory. Seton Hill would win the next two bouts by decision to move ahead by a 6-3 margin. SHU's William Burgess was victorious at 133 with a 7-2 decision over Christopher Rocha-Perez (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside), while Joel Cawoski won at 141 with a 3-1 decision over Austin Hertel (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton).

From that point, Gannon took over with seven-consecutive wins, including four results that provided bonus points for the Knights.

Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) began the run of seven-straight for Gannon with a 10-0 major decision over Seton Hill's Dominic Williams. Means, who is ranked in both national polls at No. 2 in the country, improved to 10-0 on the season.

At 157 lbs., sixth-ranked (InterMat) Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) won a 14-10 decision over Seton Hill's Tyler Alberts, while No. 1 Alex Farenchak (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) received a forfeit win at 165 lbs. Joey Petrella (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) kept Gannon's momentum intact in the 174 bout, edging the Griffins' Luke Ewing by a 3-2 decision. Petrella, who it ranked in both national polls, improved to 16-4 following the win.

With Gannon already comfortably ahead by a 19-6 margin, the Knights would finish the meet with a technical fall and two falls in the final three bouts. Cameron Page (Frewsburg, N.Y./Falconer Central) (184 lbs.) blanked Riley O'Mara by a 16-0 technical fall, before Joel Leise (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) and Freddie Nixon (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) were both victorious by first-round falls. Leise recorded a fall at 2:44, while Nixon finished off the meet with a fall just 37 seconds into the heavyweight bout.

Leise improved to 8-0 following the victory, as the junior has now won six bouts in a row by fall. Leise is currently ranked No. 3 by NWCA and No. 11 by InterMat. Nixon, who is also ranked in both national polls, improved to 14-1 on the year at heavyweight.

Gannon's "B" team will host Lake Erie College on Thursday evening at the Hammermill Center. Wrestling will get underway at 7 p.m. The "A" team Knights will return to action on Saturday at the Shippensburg Duals.
