Mims Named PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon University's Demetrius Mims (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic Institute) was named the PSAC West Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon when the league office announced its weekly awards. Mims is the first Golden Knight men's basketball player to be recognized by the PSAC this season.

A redshirt sophomore from Baltimore, Md., Mims led Gannon to a 63-53 win at Seton Hill a week ago. The victory boosted the Golden Knights to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in the PSAC West. Mims and teammate Lance-Amir Paul (Kingston, Jamaica/Putnam Science Academy) played all forty minutes as Gannon played short-handed once again.

Mims is a transfer from Division I Towson in his first season as a Golden Knight. He registered his first double-double at Seton Hill, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. In addition, he had three steals and blocked a shot. With Mims leading the way, Gannon held Seton Hill to just 53 points, matching a season low, and the Griffins shot just 35.8 percent from the floor. On offense, the 6'6" guard made 7-of-12 field goal attempts along with his lone free throw.

Mims currently ranks third on the team in scoring (13.4 ppg.) and is tied for second in rebounding (6.9 rpg.). He has a team-high 18 steals and is tied for third on the team with five blocked shots.

Gannon is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, January 19 hosting Slippery Rock. Tipoff at the Hammermill Center is set for 7:30 p.m.
