ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University men's water polo team used a very strong first-quarter effort (outscoring Mount St. Mary's 5-2) to propel themselves to an eventual victory, 13-11.

The Mountaineers held a slim 32-27 total shot advantage while Gannon was tops in shot percentage (.481 to .344). Individually, senior
Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)) stuffed the stat sheet for the Golden Knights, tallying a team-high three goals, one assist, and three steals. Multiple Gannon players finished with a pair of goals, including sophomore
Dylan Schmitzerle (Richmond, Va.), seniors
Robert Bolmanski (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) and
Tony Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), and junior
Vlad Mickic (Subotica, Serbia /Nikola Tesla).

Marty Kaverman Jr. (Erie, Pa./McDowell) (a team-best seven steals) and Squeglia (five steals) were terrors on the defensive end. In goal, junior
Jacob Hollo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) played 24 minutes and made 10 saves with a .625 save percentage. Freshman
Alvaro Marco (Madrid, Spain/IES Ortega y Gasset) logged eight total minutes and made six saves.

The Golden Knights are now able to rest and recover (especially after a taxing four-game stretch last weekend) and do not play again until a pair of games on Saturday, Sept. 25 versus Salem (1:30 p.m.) and Washington and Jefferson (4:30 p.m.)
