Coed, Team Performance Grab Highest Finishes Ever, Game Day Matches Its At Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — All three teams that competed in the finals for the Gannon competitive cheer and dance teams bested or matched their all-time best finish Friday at the 2021 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships.

Coed upped its score and lowered its deductions from prelims on Thursday, finishing the finals with a score of 91.65 for a total score of 91.4208 and a third-place finish in the advanced small coed division.
 
The Golden Knights put up solid scores in jumps (9.70), standing tumbling (9.10) and tosses (9.10), and improved their score in nearly every category.
 
Game Day improved its raw score by a half point, winding up with a score of 81.77 on Friday and a total score of 82.0167 in a tightly contested game day open division.
 
Gannon scored the top mark in the division in game day skill incorporation (8.30) and visual appeal (8.50).
 
Dance's team performance improved its score by nearly two points from Thursday's prelims, scoring an 83.42 Friday to finish sixth in the Division II team performance division.
 
The Golden Knights scored over 8.00 in all but one category, putting up good scores in performance impression (8.92), jazz choreography (8.12) and pom choreography (8.12).
 
The dance team only got a short break before participating in the prelims in the Division II hip hop division, where they came in fourth heading into Saturday's finals, less than a point back of third-place Limestone.
 
Gannon put up solid scores in performance impression (8.76), uniformity (8.42) and staging (8.50).
 
The coed team set a new program best with its third-place finish. Its previous best was fourth in 2017. Game day had previously placed third in its first nationals appearance in 2019. Dance team performance placed eighth in 2019 in its only other nationals appearance.
 
The Division II dance hip hop finals are Saturday morning, with Gannon set to compete at 10:08 a.m.
