KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon got back in the game midway through the first half, getting finishes from Skyler Parsons (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) and McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) within a minute to cut the Mercyhurst lead in half at 4-2 with 11 minutes to go in the frame, but the Lakers netted the final four goals of the half to extend their lead in holding off the Golden Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts would take a 4-0 lead over the first 10 minutes of the contest, but Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) followed that up with a few key saves in goal for Gannon, and Woodworth picked up a ground ball off a shot to keep a possession alive, eventually leading to a goal for Parsons. A Mercyhurst turnover on the next possession led to Woodworth cashing into make it 4-2 with 11:06 on the clock.
  • Gannon got shots from Christina Zeher (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Emma Uhring on the next couple possessions, but Mercyhurst would close the half strong to hold an 8-2 lead at the break. The Lakers scored on the first try of the second half, but the Golden Knights had a strong response, with Lauren Squires (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) hopping on a Laker turnover, and Parsons finding Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) on the other end to bring the margin back to six just three minutes into the half.
  • Hepditch halted a Mercyhurst run with her second goal of the game midway through the second half to make it 15-4, and Woodworth capped her day with two more scores, cleaning up in front for a finish just inside of 10 minutes, then closing the scoring after Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) forced a turnover on the defensive end with just under five minutes to go.

GAME NOTES
  • Woodworth bumped her team-leading total to 13 goals on the year with her three goals, as the freshman now has multiple goals in each of her past four games.
  • Hepditch set a career high with her two goals. The freshman has found the back of the net in four of her first five games.
  • Nine different Golden Knight registered multiple ground balls, led by three each from Alexandra Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Zeher. Gannon was two off a season high with 22 ground balls Tuesday.
  • Tufts posted three draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers to go with her team-high six shots.
  • Renwick made double digit saves for the second consecutive game, notching 10 Tuesday. That pushed the senior over the 400 career saves plateau, as she now stands at 405.
  • Gannon has pushed through a tough opening portion of its schedule, with five of its six games on the road and four of six against nationally ranked opponents.

UP NEXT
