KEY SEQUENCE
  • Some key goals and a pestering defense had Gannon tied up at 3-3 with unbeaten Seton Hill more than 20 minutes into the game. The Griffins would score the next goal to go back ahead though, kicking off a run of four straight to end the first half that gave them just enough momentum to pull away.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon won the opening draw and got two chances on its opening possession, as Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) each fired off a shot. They then turned Seton Hill over, but the Griffins got it back to score the first goal of the game three minutes in. Hepditch grabbed the next draw though, and Jacobs got in front, eventually earning a free position and scoring to tie it up.
  • A save from Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and later a caused turnover by Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) got Gannon the ball back, and Hepditch converted just six minutes into the game to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead. Hepditch nearly made it 3-1, but the Griffins got a save, and turned it into the tying goal on the other end. Gannon's defense stepped up after a timeout, forcing four turnovers without a shot, but Seton Hill eventually took the lead back at 3-2 with 13:32 to play in the half.
  • Coming out of another timeout, Gannon got to work, with Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville) dishing to Hannah Mowery (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) for the tying goal to make it 3-3, and a McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) free position shot on the next possession slid just wide. That tie stood for over four minutes until Seton Hill broke the stalemate at the 8:25 mark. The Griffins scored two more a few minutes later, then tacked on another in the final seconds of the half to hold a 7-3 lead.
  • Seton Hill added two more in the first two minutes of the second half, and built the lead out to 11-3 with 20 minutes remaining. Renwick intercepted a pass through the crease to get the Gannon offense back on the roll, with Tufts finding the back of the net on the other end to make it 11-4.
  • Hepditch got the first attempt after the Griffins bumped it back to 12-4, and although it was saved, she got another chance after a Seton Hill turnover and made it count, putting home the feeder from Skyler Parsons (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) to get it back to 12-5 with 12:26 to go. McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) got in on the scoring action in the final seven minutes, converting a free position to make it 14-6 before closing the Gannon scoring with another goal from in front with two minutes to play.

GAME NOTES
  • Hepditch and Woodworth each finished with two goals to lead the Gannon scoring. Woodworth saw her four-game run of at least five goals come to an end, but the freshman has still netted multiple goals in nine consecutive games.
  • Hepditch also posted nine draw controls to tie for most in a game this season with Jacobs, who had nine against D'Youville.
  • Renwick posted eight saves to go with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Tufts had three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers to go with her goal.
  • Alexandra Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) put up a team-high four ground balls and also caused a pair of turnovers.
  • The active Gannon defense and midfield forced 23 turnovers out of Seton Hill, which is the most times the Griffins have coughed the ball up in a game this season.
