KEY SEQUENCE
  • A 6-2 run by Gannon to end the first half had the Golden Knights in front at the break, but IUP tightened up on defense, holding the hosts to one goal in the second half and slowly chipping away with scores of its own to escape with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) got the Golden Knights on the board on the first possession. Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won the opening draw, the ball got to Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville) who dished to Woodworth for the early lead just 30 seconds in. IUP answered after a turnover on the next possession, and made it 2-1 just over four minutes in.
  • That lead got pushed to 4-1 midway through the half before Gannon began its charge. A turnover caused by Emma Uhrig (Waterloo, Ontario/Kitchener Waterloo Collegiate) got the move started, and Woodworth hit on a free position to edge closer. Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) won the next draw, and Skyler Parsons (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) found Woodworth for another to make it 4-3 at the 13:44 mark.
  • Hepditch got her own a few minutes later, as Hannah Mowery (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) slipped a pass in to her to tie it up. Uhrig scored on a free position after causing another turnover on the defensive end to draw even again after IUP went ahead, and Krock and Hepditch netted two more in the final five minutes of the half to give Gannon a 7-6 advantage at halftime.
  • The Crimson Hawks put the pressure on early in the second half, getting two shots off early before converting on their third to tie it up. They went ahead on a man-up chance with 23 minutes to go, and shots from Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and Tufts looking to equalize were saved and hit the post, respectively, before IUP instead got the next one on another man-up opportunity.
  • The guests pushed their lead to 10-7 with 10 minutes to play, but the Knights were able to cut into that one more time. Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) started it with a save on the defensive end, and Woodworth found the back of the net on a free position to get it back to two goals at 10-8. Two goals in the span of a minute gave the Hawks some insurance as they were able to run out the clock.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon was once again active on defense, forcing IUP into 22 turnovers. The Golden Knights have harassed their last two opponents and four of their last six into at least 20 turnovers.
  • Woodworth notched a game-high four goals to finish off her freshman campaign with a team-high 40. That's the most for a Golden Knight freshman since Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) also netted 40 in 2015. Woodworth is also second in the PSAC in total goals, and fourth with 3.33 per game.
  • Hepditch turned in two goals and an assist for a career-high three points, also adding three draw controls.
  • Uhrig also had three draws, as well as two ground balls and two caused turnovers, to go with her second goal of the season.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon completed its 2021 season Monday. The Golden Knights will be back in action next spring with the 2022 campaign.
