KEY SEQUENCE
  • IUP built an early lead, extending it to 8-0 over the first 20 minutes of the game. The Crimson Hawks needed all of that early support, as Gannon outscored the hosts the rest of the way, including 3-2 over the rest of the first half and 9-7 in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Crimson Hawks put forth a strong start, opening the scoring three minutes in and methodically adding to the lead until they built it to 8-0 after two quick goals. Gannon's offense got started after an IUP turnover, as Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) put a shot on goal and McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) got the Golden Knights on the board at the 8:33 mark.
  • Gannon won the draw after IUP answered to make it 9-1, and Woodworth cashed in on a man-up opportunity on a free position score. Woodworth finished off her first-half hat trick to cu tit to 9-3 before IUP closed the half with a goal.
  • The Golden Knights started the second half on a strong note, as Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) forced a turnover and got the ball ahead to Skyler Parsons (Reading, Pa./Exeter Twp.) for a goal just 19 seconds in. Parsons made it two scores in less than two minutes on a free position goal after another IUP turnover, although the Crimson Hawks bumped it back out to 12-5 with two quick scores.
  • Woodworth got back on the board, forcing a turnover in Gannon's offensive end, scooping up the ground ball and cashing in on a free position. Parsons added another less than three minutes later, making it 12-7 10 minutes into the half. IUP registered back-to-back goals to extend its lead again, but Tufts got it back to 14-8 after Lauren Squires (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) won the ensuing draw.
  • Woodworth forced another turnover and quickly converted it to a goal to cut the deficit to five at 14-9 with 13:53 to play. Gannon got another two shots on goal over the next few minutes, but IUP pushed its lead out to 17-9 with just over four minutes to play.
  • Gannon closed strong, with Woodworth converting after Alexandra Kehrig (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) forced a turnover. Tufts added two more in the final minute, scoring 18 seconds apart to make it a five-goal spread.

GAME NOTES
  • Woodworth earned a career high in goals for the second time in four days, turning in a game-high six. The freshman bumped her team-leading season total to 24, including 11 in the past two games, and bumped up to fifth in the PSAC with 3.00 goals per game.
  • Tufts added three goals after registering five on Wednesday, the junior has tripled her season total with the past two games, and now sits at 12 goals on the season.
  • Parsons put up a career high with her three goals, the first time the freshman has had multiple scores in a game, and also added two ground balls.
  • Gannon was incredibly efficient with the opportunities it got, scoring its 12 goals on just 17 total shots. That 70.6 shooting percentage is the team's best since converting on 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) against Lock Haven on April 22, 2017.
  • Jacobs and Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic) each filled up the stat sheet. Jacobs led with four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Hepditch dished out an assist to go with four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Renwick stopped 13 shots in the cage for the Golden Knights, the third game with double-digit saves in her last three games.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon ends a long string without a home game — 38 days to be exact — by returning to host Lock Haven Sunday.
  • The noon first draw from McConnell Family Stadium will feature live stats and live video.
