KEY SEQUENCE
  • Lock Haven managed to bump its lead back to two after Gannon tied it up in the second half. The Golden Knights held the guests scoreless over the last 14-plus minutes in a stellar defensive performance, but the Bald Eagles buckled down themselves, withstanding four shots in the final two minutes to escape with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon stopped the first two chances for Lock Haven early, but the guests took advantage of a yellow card to score a man-up goal, and converted after the ensuing draw as well for a 2-0 lead less than three minutes in. A Gannon timeout seemed to work, with the Golden Knights getting a pair of shots on goal, but LHU made it 3-0 two minutes later.
  • Gannon did get on the board with McKenna Woodworth's (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) first score of the game at the 24:18 mark, and got two shots and two Lock Haven turnovers before closing it to 3-2 with a free-position goal from Macy Hepditch (Waterloo, Ontario/Resurrection Catholic). Lock Haven would score next, but Gannon followed with three quick strikes stemming from an Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) save to take the lead at 5-4.
  • Lock Haven netted the next two, but Gannon tied it up on a free position from Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) with eight minutes to play in the half. Gannon had two shots to take the lead into the break, with Woodworth and Alli Jacobs (Eden, N.Y./Eden) putting shots on goal, but instead, the Bald Eagles converted on a free position with just three second left to hold a 7-6 edge at halftime.
  • Gannon won the opening draw of the second half and got a pair of early shots on the first possession, but it was Lock Haven that got two quick goals to stretch its lead to the largest of the game at 9-6 just over two minutes into the half.
  • Tufts started the next Gannon run with a turnover and ground ball on the defensive end, and Emma Ivory (Cranberry Township, Pa./North Catholic) cashed in on the other side. Two more forced turnovers led to scores from Woodworth and Jacobs to tie it up at 9-9 with just over 20 minutes to play, but the Bald Eagles would net another quick two to go back in front.
  • Gannon answered quickly with a draw win from Hepditch, and Woodworth made her second shot in less thana minute count, catching a feed from Christina Zeher (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) to make it 11-10. Lock Haven pushed it back to a two-goal lead with 14:38 to play, but that would be the final goal the Bald Eagles would score.
  • The Golden Knights defense buckled down, with Renwick stuffing three shots and a fourth sailing high. Gannon got back to within one with a finish from Jacobs with 7:39 to play. That drew a timeout out of Lock Haven, and despite a flurry of action around the cage for the Knights in the final two minutes — including shots from Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville), Tufts, and a pair from Lauren Squires (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) — Lock Haven managed to hang on.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon held Lock Haven without a goal for the final 14:38 of the game, and without a shot on goal for the final 11:45.
  • Renwick put up an incredible performance between the pipes, stopping 12 shots in the first half to keep the Golden Knights within one, and coming up with four big saves in the second. The senior has now posted double-digit saves in four of her last five games.
  • Woodworth continues to balloon her season stats, adding five scores to her tally Sunday to push her season total to 29. That continues to lead the team and moves the freshman up to third in the PSAC at 3.22 goals per game.
  • Hepditch tallied two goals to go with four draw controls and a team-high two caused turnovers. She now was six goals in her last four games, as well as six caused turnovers in her last three.
  • Jacobs also picked up two goals, and chipped in with four draw controls as well.
  • Gannon matched its season high with 33 shots, and surrendered a season-low 17 turnovers.
  • The Golden Knights have scored at least 11 goals each of their last three times out. Their 23 goals is the most in back-to-back PSAC games since scoring 25 against Shippensburg and Lock Haven in early 2019.
