HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) set the tone for day smashing a three RBI home run over the fence to put Gannon on scoreboard, 3-0. Lindsay Schmidt (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillian) followed it up with a double into left sending Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) home to increase the advantage to 4-0.
  • After scoreless second and third frames, Mercyhurst cut the deficit in half, 4-2. The Golden Knights answered right back in the fifth inning with two more runs as Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) connected on a two RBI double to left to stretch the lead to 6-2. The Lakers responded in the bottom half of the fifth frame with two runs of their own to pull back within two, 6-4.
  • Gannon added an insurance run in the sixth as Schmidt delivered a single allowing DeMatteis and Olivia Evans (Horseheads, New York/Horeseheads Senior High) to score, 8-4. Mercyhurst attempted to rally in the seventh pushing one run across, but Gannon went on to get the final two outs and secure the 8-5 win.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted 11 hits and eight RBI.
  • Schmidt paced the Knights with two hits and three RBI.
  • Taliani connected on her first home run of the season with a season-best three RBI.
  • Bush added in one run with two hits and two RBI.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) picked up her first win of the season and 27th of her career going all 7.0 innings in the circle with four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst battled back in game two jumping out to a 2-0 edge after the first inning. Ryan got the scoring started for the Knights after she singled to the short stop sending Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) home to make the score 2-1.
  • Following scoreless third and fourth innings, Taliani blasted a home run to center locking the contest, 2-2. Gannon then busted the game open as Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) smashed a three RBI home run to centerfield to steal the lead, 5-2.
  • The Knights continued to swing a hot bat as Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) also sent a three RBI home run to center to seal the 8-2 win in the seventh inning.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon totaled 12 hits and eight RBI.
  • Ryan paced the Knights with a game-high four RBI to go along with three hits. She also connected on her first career home run.
  • Stocker tallied a team-best two runs with a season-best two hits and three RBI. She also delivered her first home run of the season and 24th of her career.
  • Taliani posted one run, one hit and one RBI. She also connected on a home run in her second straight game.
  • Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) earned her first career win going all 7.0 innings tossing a season-high seven strikeouts.

  • The two teams will wrap up the four-game series tomorrow at McConnell Family Stadium. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
