HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a scoreless opening frame, Gannon got on the scoreboard after a throwing error allowed Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) to get home, 1-0. The Golden Knights continued to surge as Katy Stocker singled sending Kristina Dematteis across, 2-0.
  • Gannon threatened to crack the game open loading up the bases in the third frame but left all three stranded after Stocker struck out swinging. Mercyhurst then struck in the fourth inning after Cheyenne Hindman connected on a two-run home run, 2-0.
  • The contest then went scoreless into extra innings until Alyssa Coons delivered an RBI single to make the score 3-2. Gannon attempted to rally getting two on base in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to get either home.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon posted five hits.
  • DeMatteis paced the Knights with one run, one hit and one stolen base.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) got the start in the circle and tossed a season-high eight strikeouts over all 9.0 innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon once again started fast in game two as Hannah Neal (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) blasted an RBI double down the right field line, 1-0. Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) then put the Knights up 3-0 in the third inning with a two RBI home run to center field.
  • Mercyhurst responded with a four run fourth inning to steal the lead, 4-3, after Madison Fry notched a two RBI single to center. The Lakers added on one more run in the fifth frame after Sarah Koscho sent a two RBI home run to left field, 6-3.
  • Gannon attempted to rally in the bottom half of the fifth as DeMatteis smashed her first home run of the season to left field to make the score 6-4. However, the Lakers went on to add two more insurance runs in the seventh inning to secure the win, 8-4.
GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon registered eight hits with four RBI.
  • Stocker tallied a team-high two RBI with one run and one hit. She also notched her second home run of the season and 25th of her career.
  • Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) contributed one hit and one stolen base.
  • Eight different players posted at least one hit for the Knights.
  • Gabi Vasi (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) tossed a team-high two strikeouts over 3.2 innings of work.
  • Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) also saw 3.1 innings of action in the circle with one strikeout.
