AROUND THE LEAGUE THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
  1. Gannon secured the fifth seed in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament and will travel to fourth-seeded California for the first round on Monday night.  It will mark the Golden Knights' ninth trip to the tournament since joining the conference in 2008-09. 
  2. The Knights enter the contest with a 14-12 (13-9 PSAC) overall record. Gannon will face California for the second time in three days after downing the Vulcans, 82-71, on Saturday afternoon to close the regular season. Four Knights hit double digits in scoring with Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) setting the pace with a game-high 25 points.
  3. Gannon will lean on its defense that is rated third in the PSAC and 25th in NCAA Division II holding its opponents to 67.6 points per game. The Knights have limited their opponents to 60 points or less in eight games this season. Gannon is also generating 7.73 steals per game, which ranks third in the PSAC.
PSAC TOURNAMENT REGULARS
  • Since joining the PSAC in 2008-09, Gannon has made eight tournament appearances and has won two championships (2015, 2009). The Knights have also appeared in the PSAC Final Four five times and hold a 10-6 all-time record in PSAC Tournament play.
FACING CALIFORNIA
  • This will mark the third meeting this season between these two teams after splitting the regular season series. It will also mark the first postseason meeting since playing in the 1987-88 NCAA Tournament.
  • Gannon has won seven of the last nine meetings against California. The contest will be the 37th all-time meeting in a series that dates back to 1949-50. Gannon is 6-9 against California in road contests, but leads the all-time series, 21-15.
SCOUTING THE VULCANS
  • California locked up the fourth seed in the PSAC Tournament and enters the first round with an 18-10 (14-8 PSAC) overall record.
  • The Vulcans are 9-3 in home games this season.
  • California is positioned sixth in the PSAC in scoring averaging 80.8 points per game.
  • Tim Smith Jr. led California in its most recent meeting against Gannon on Saturday netting a team-high 18 points. He's averaging 8.9 points per game and has reached double digits in scoring 13 times this season.
  • Brent Pegram paces the Vulcans and is averaging 20.3 points per game, which slots him third in the PSAC. Pegram has reached double figures in scoring in all 28 games this season for California.
