GANNON STORYLINES/NOTES
  • Gannon (31-13) is making its second consecutive trip to the PSAC Baseball Tournament. The Golden Knights captured their first outright PSAC West regular season championship (since joining the league prior to the 2009 season) after taking three of four from Mercyhurst to cap the 2019 regular season.
  • Gannon has tied its overall mark for wins in a season (31) for the second year in a row, with a chance to set a new record in the PSAC Tournament. The Golden Knights have not lost a regular season PSAC series for the past two seasons.
  • The Golden Knights lost both games of the conference tournament last season, including a tough 10-9 extra-inning defeat against Millersville on May 9, 2018.
  • Head coach Greg Coleman, now in his fourth year at the helm, earned his 100th career coaching victory earlier this season.
  • Gannon is a balanced offensive team powered by the home run. The Golden Knights have mashed 57 homers this season, with OF Jared Beach (McDonald, Pa./Canon-McMillan) (13 HR), INF Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillian ) (12 HR), C/DH Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) (9 HR) and C/DH Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge) (9 HR) having all tied or set new single-season highs in 2019.
  • Cardy (.357) leads the team in batting average this season and holds the Gannon school record for career home runs (26), RBI (163), doubles (43), runs scored (145) and total bases (332).
  • Beach is slugging a team-high .714 this season and has collected nine multi-hit games.
  • Freshman INF Trey Zeroski (Clinton, Pa. / West Allegheny) enters the tournament with a four-game hitting streak, including the go-ahead base knock in game two on Friday against Mercyhurst.
  • Hess has posted seven hits over the last eight games with three home runs, nine RBI and five runs scored.
  • On the mound, sophomore RHP Deven Judy (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon Area) has tossed four complete games and notched 77 strikeouts. His strikeout total is the fifth best for a single-season in school history. Judy needs just three more strikeouts to pass Steve Shubert (79 – 1993) for fourth on the single-season strikeout list.
  • Gannon has also received several solid starts from senior Cory Hegedus (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) (3-4, 3.90 ERA, 71 K, 18 BB), senior Jarod Morrison (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) (4-2, 5.36 ERA, 37 K, 9 BB) and junior Eric Sapp (Deerfield, Ohio/Southeast) (5-1, 4.38 ERA, 53 K, 25 BB).
  • Benjamin Visnesky (West Mifflin, Pa. / West Mifflin Area ), John Bender (Wilson, N.Y. / Wilson) and Matthew Yough (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) anchor the Golden knights out of the bullpen, helping Gannon to a 4.48 team ERA. Bender leads the squad with three saves, while Yough has notched a 5-0 record in a team-high 17 appearances.
  • Freshmen Luke Callahan (Chardon, Ohio / Chardon ) and Justin Hamm (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) have each played in at least 40 games for the Golden Knights in their first year with the program.
  • Seniors Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) and Ian Steighner (Chicora, Pa./Butler) provide Gannon with a veteran presence in the lineup and have combined for 26 RBI in 2019.

  • Anthony Torreullas (.320, 19 2B, 2 3B, 6 HR, 40 RBI) has started 47 games and enters the tournament on a four-game hitting streak.
