GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
KEY SEQUENCE
  • Two quick scores from Gannon midway through the first half edged it closer after a fast start from Millersville, as Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville) buried a feed from Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) to make it 7-3 with 13:27 left. The Marauders scored just 31 seconds later though, starting a three-goal burst that pushed them out to a seven-goal advantage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Millersville took the opening draw and scored in the first minute of the game, then made it 2-0 with less than four minutes gone. An Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) save got Gannon started after that though, and Ivy Carey (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville South) cut the deficit in half when she beat the Marauder goalie on a dish from Jessica Hudak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) with 24:27 on the clock.
  • The guests followed that up with a run of six straight goals, using an up-tempo offense to move through transition and get on the attack. Gillian Zimmerman posted two goals during the run and Sara Burney added a goal and an assist. The two sides went back and forth for nearly six minutes after that, with Hudak and Shields each getting off a shot and Renwick making two big saves.
  • Gannon broke the streak with a free position finish from Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell), with Krock netting her goal to cut it to 7-3. Millersville followed that by cashing in on a turnover though, ringing up three goals to go up 10-3.
  • The Lady Knights won the next draw and put up a pair of shots before holding off a charge from Millersville. Gannon was the next to get on the board, with Rotondo making it a six-goal game by the 6:38 mark. Rotondo and Tufts each nearly made it a five-goal game, but the Marauders netted the final score of the half.
  • The guests bookended the break with scores with another 55 seconds into the second half, but Rotondo kept the run from getting bigger on a free position goal. Tufts made it two scores on the day with a shot from the left edge just over eight minutes into the period, but Millersville again answered 30 seconds later.
  • Rotondo tallied her fourth score of the game on an excellent effort, reaching up to knock a lobbed Marauder pass out of the air, scooping it up and charging in to win the one-on-one battle with the goal and give the Knights a late highlight.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon was active on loose balls, winning the ground ball battle 16-10.
  • Rotondo scored four goals on nine shots in the game, her third time in the past four games putting up exactly four goals. The junior also added game highs with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Tufts tallied a pair of goals, also putting up three ground balls and a draw control.
  • Renwick ran her streak of making at least 11 saves to eight consecutive games.
  • Gannon seniors Shields, Caroline Mauck (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) and Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) were honored before the game. The Knights also celebrated the life of lacrosse alumna Rachel Vargas (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North), a fellow member of the recruiting class of 2015, who passed away after a battle with cancer earlier this year.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon concludes the home portion of its schedule Wednesday afternoon, hosting Slippery Rock in its penultimate game of the 2019 season.
  • The 4 p.m. first draw from McConnell Family Stadium will feature live video and live stats.
  • The Lady Knights are 8-4 all-time against the Rock.
  • Slippery Rock is 5-8 (4-6 PSAC) this season, with a nonconference matchup against Lake Erie College still to come Tuesday before heading to Erie.
