KEY SEQUENCE
  • While Gannon ripped off seven consecutive goals in the second half to take the lead, Slippery Rock's lone goal of the half tied it up with 2:25 to play. That didn't bother the Lady Knights though, as Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) slipped down the left alley and popped a high shot over the shoulder of the Rock goalie to give the hosts the game winner with just 63 seconds left to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rotondo also gave Gannon the first lead of the game, taking advantage of a Rock turnover and slicing through the attack area for an unassisted tally nine minutes in to open the scoring. The guests answered just over two minutes later though, and a harassing midfield helped SRU slowly build a lead that turned into 6-1 by the 7:36 mark.
  • A sloppy final few minutes of the opening half saw turnovers from both sides, but the Rock finally snapped the scoreless stretch by finding the back of the net with just nine seconds left in the period to hold a 7-1 lead at the intermission.
  • Gannon got back on the board after an Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) save started their second possession of the second half, with Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) cutting the deficit to five at the 26:40 mark.
  • That began the second-half blitz for the Knights, and it was followed up quickly by two straight slick plays from Haylee Tatar (Lakeview, N.Y./Frontier). Twice in a span of less than 20 seconds, the freshman got the ball down to the left flank and found a streaking Rotondo for scores, the second of which suddenly had the hosts trailing just 7-4 with 24:28 still remaining.
  • Another stuff from Renwick got the Knights rolling, and Rontodo finished off a Shields feed at the 22:05 mark, making it 7-5. Renwick and the defense in front of her kept stoning the Rock, and some more deft passing out of Tatar led to another score, this time seeing her drive and kick out to Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), who fired a sidearm rocket to pull Gannon to within one goal midway through the half.
  • Rachel Tufts (Erie, Pa./McDowell) finished off a long possession with a free position goal low through the goalie's legs at the 11:14 mark, and the Knights were even for the first time in over 34 minutes of game action. Shields pushed Gannon ahead with a high shot to the opposite corner of the goal off a pass from Bower, and the hosts grabbed an 8-7 lead as the clock ticked under five minutes to play.
  • The Rock suddenly found its offensive game after a save from Haley Barrett after the Knights won the ensuing draw, and Hayley Pimentel snapped their scoreless skid by tying the game with 2:25 to play. Gannon grabbed the next draw as well, and although Rotondo's first shot sailed wide, Shields grabbed the ground ball, and the Knights came out of a timeout and quickly took the lead for good on Rotondo's finish.
  • Renwick's final save of the day was a huge one, stuffing Pimentel with 37 seconds left and controlling the ball to led Gannon run the clock out and seal the victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Renwick was a stone wall in the second half, stopping 11 of the Rock's 12 shots on goal in the period. The sophomore finished the game with a career-high 19 saves, matching the highest single-game total for Gannon since the 2004 season. It was the most since Shauna Hutchinson also stopped 19 in 2008. Jessica Watson was the last to stop more, making 22 saves in 2004.
  • Tatar set a season-high for Gannon with her three assists. She also pulled into a three-way tie for the team lead, matching Tufts and Shields with six apiece.
  • Rotondo poured in five of Gannon's nine goals, the fourth time this season that she has scored at least five in a game. It also pushed the junior to 51 goals on the season, giving the Knights a 50-goal scorer for the first time since Kimberly Neagle netted 59 in 2014.
  • Bower was all over the field in her final game at McConnell Family Stadium. The senior set a career high with eight ground balls, and also led Gannon with four draw controls and two caused turnovers while putting up a goal and an assist offensively.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon closes its season Saturday afternoon, hitting the road to face off against Bloomsburg.
  • The 1 p.m. first draw from Steph Pettit Stadium will feature live stats.
  • The Lady Knights are 10-8 all-time against the Huskies.
  • Bloom is 10-6 (6-5 PSAC) this season after a 14-8 defeat against East Stroudsburg Wednesday that knocked it out of postseason contention.
