GANNON STORYLINES
  • Two wins this week would guarantee a playoff berth for Gannon. The Golden Knights could seal a playoff spot as early as Wednesday evening with a win over Clarion and an Edinboro loss against IUP.
  • The Golden Knights got Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) back from injury Saturday against Mercyhurst, and the senior responded with 16 points. He was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line, the most makes without a miss for a Gannon player this season.
  • Over the past three games, Gannon has been getting to the line and converting, hitting 80 percent (44-of-55) during that stretch.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
  • Clarion has dropped each of its last four games, but have showed some fight. The Golden Eagles took Slippery Rock down to the wire in a 61-60 game on Feb. 16, and took Edinboro to overtime on Saturday before falling 90-86. They also own a win over Pitt-Johnstown earlier this month.
  • Elijah Cottrill played all 45 minutes against the Fighting Scots Saturday, pouring in 24 points and going 5-of-7 from 3-point range to go with nine rebounds and four assists. Four Eagles scored in double figures.
  • Cottrill is averaging 17.8 ppg and shooting 56 percent (14-of-25) from deep over his last four games.
  • Clarion has three players who average at least 10 ppg in Khari Williams (13.5), Cottrill (13.3) and Stevan Rodriguez (10.7).
  • The Eagles have turned in their best two shooting games in 2019 the past two times out. They shot 46.3 percent in both games last week, hitting 25-of-54 against IUP and 31-of-67 against Edinboro.
  • All five of Clarion's victories have come at home this season. Outside of a lopsided loss to IUP, the Golden Eagles have beaten UPJ and Seton Hill, and been within five points against Mercyhurst, Slippery Rock and Edinboro in PSAC West play.
  • Clarion is playing its home games in its Student Recreation Center this season as its Tippin Gymnasium receives a $42.7 million renovation.

UP NEXT
  • The Golden Knights put a lid on the regular season with a road trip to Slippery Rock Saturday afternoon, where they'll go for the season sweep of one of the PSAC West's top teams.
