GANNON'S ACTION
Who: No. 2 Fordham vs. No. 7 Gannon
What: MAWPC Championships
When: Friday, Nov. 22 at 6 pm
Where: Bucknell University
Why: The Golden Knights earned the No. 7 seed in the MAWPC Championships, which are set to begin Friday. They beat La Salle earlier this year to earn their ranking in the tournament. Gannon is coming off a 2-0 weekend at the MAWPC West Championships with a 15-14 OT win over McKendree to clinch the West Championship game. Four players earn All-Tournament and All-Conference honors after posting a 15-2 overall record and a 6-0 finish in conference play.

AROUND THE CWPA:  
GANNON STORYLINES/NOTES
  • The Golden Knights are coming off a big overtime win to clinch the MAWPC West Championships and earned the No. 7 seed in the MAWPC Conference Championships. Gannon earned the seventh slot having beat La Salle 17-11 earlier this season in the Laker Invitational.
  • Drago Marjanovic (Belgrade, Serbia/North Allegheny (Pa.)) made a steal with less than 20 seconds on the clock and sent the ball from about halfway across the pool over the goalkeeper to secure the 15-14 win over McKendree.
  • Jacob Hollo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) earned Rookie of the Tournament honors and made 23 saves in the championship game, which set a new career-high. It was also just two saves shy of tying the single-game record.
  • Hollo also earned Rookie of the Year honors. He has 198 saves on the season which ranks sixth in career saves and 11th in the single-season books.
  • Marjanovic and Jack Donnelly (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) were also named to the All-Tournament Team and named First Team All-Conference. Majanovic scored a career and game-high seven goals in the win over McKendree. Donnelly had two goals in the championship.
  • Majanovic also leads the Knights on the season with 54 goals. He is currently tied for 10th in single-season records. He has 28 assists on the season.
  • Donnelly has scored 41 goals, which brings his career-total to 109 goals. His career-total ranks 12th all-time.
  • Anthony Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) was named to the All-Tournament Second Team. He tallied four assists in the win over McKendree.
  • Thomas Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) was the final Knight named First Team All-Conference. He became only the third player in program history to record 100 career goals and 100 career assists. Currently, he has 45 goals on the year bringing his career-total to 142, which ranks 8th in the record book.
 
SCOUTING THE FIELD
  • The Knights will play No. 2 Fordham in the opening round of action. They are currently ranked No. 18 in the national rankings after posting a 23-6 overall record in the regular season.
  • The Rams are 5-4 against nationally ranked opponents this season and finished the year 8-2 in their final 10 games.
  • Fordham stands at 10-3 against the field with three wins vs. La Salle, two wins over Wagner, one over Johns Hopkins, George Washington, Bucknell, and Navy. Their three losses were split to Bucknell, George Washington, and Navy.
 
UP NEXT
  • With either a win or a loss, the Knights will continue play in the tournament.
  • Following a Gannon win, the Knights will play at 6 pm on Saturday vs. the winner of No. 3 George Washington vs. No. 6 Johns Hopkins.
  • Following a Gannon loss, the Knights will play at 3 pm on Saturday vs. the loser of No. 3 George Washington vs. No. 6 Johns Hopkins.
  • The Knights will also be guaranteed a third game on Sunday, and the schedule page will be updated as opponents are announced.
