HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon was the aggressor at the onset, scoring the first three goals. Senior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) sandwiched an unassisted score from junior Kat Martinelli (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) with two of her own during the opening run.
  • Seton Hill finally got on the board nine minutes and 22 seconds into the contest, but Gannon answered 36 seconds later when junior Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) finished an assist from King for a 4-1 lead nearly 10 minutes into the contest.
  • The Griffins then controlled the final 19 minutes, scoring the last four goals of the half to assume a 5-4 lead at the intermission.
  • The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first 15 minutes of the second half.
  • King scored three times to keep the Lady Knights close. Her fifth goal of the afternoon cut the deficit to 9-7 at the 19:47 mark.
  • After Seton Hill found the back of the net, Martinelli and junior Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) scored back-to-back goals to draw within 10-9.
  • The Griffins then generated a decisive 4-0 run to enlarged the home team's advantage to 14-9 with 7:01 remaining.
  • The two teams split the final four goals with sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) producing both of Gannon's scores before the Griffins secured a 16-11 victory.
