HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Jessica Hudak (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) produced the contest's first goal 44 seconds after the opening draw.
  • Shippensburg responded with three consecutive goals and five of the next six to assume a 5-2 lead with 3:27 remaining in the first half.
  • Senior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) gave Gannon an important momentum boost heading into halftime when she scored a free-position goal as time expired, cutting the deficit to 5-3 at the break.
  • The two teams split the opening two scores of the second half, before sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) and King netted back-to-back free-position goals to tie the match at six with 22:01 to play.
  • After Shippensburg momentarily regained the lead at 7-6, Gannon countered with a 4-0 run to take control with a 10-7 advantage.
  • Junior Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) ignited the run with a free-position score that forged a 7-7 deadlock.
  • Rotondo followed with back-to-back goals, before King added an unassisted score to create a three-goal advantage with 12:22 remaining.
  • The Ship wasn't ready to sink though as the Raiders exploded for three straight goals to tie the match at 10 with 1:41 remaining.
  • Shippensburg won the ensuing draw, but Martinelli caused a turnover 14 seconds later. Hudak scooped up the ground ball and Gannon called time-out.
  • The Lady Knights got three cracks at the game-winner. The first shot was turned away by the Ship goalkeeper, before King grabbed the rebound and fired high. Gannon retained possession and Martinelli then scored the decisive goal off an assist from junior Micaela Capozzo (Medford, Mass./Pinkerton Academy) with 26 ticks left.
  • King followed with her eighth draw control of the match and the Lady Knights were able to run out the clock to secure an 11-10 conference victory.
