Favret Sets School Record as Gannon Sit Fifth After Day Two of PSAC Championships

Event: 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Swimming Championships
Location: Graham Aquatic Center – York, Pa.
Competing Teams: Bloomsburg, Clarion, California (Pa.), East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), Gannon, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Shippensburg, Millersville and West Chester
Result: Gannon sits fifth out of 12 teams
The Short Story: Samantha Favret (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) set a new school record in the 100-yard backstroke, while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Favret, Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Courteney Hubert (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) and Celia Kottakis (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) placed fourth with a season-best time of 1:37.05, highlighting the Gannon women's swimming team's top performers Thursday at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

GANNON'S INDIVIDUAL PODIUM FINISHES

200-Yard Freestyle Relay – 1:37.05 (4th Place) … Taraska, Favret, Hubert and Kottakis clocked their season-best time in the relay to place fourth.
400-Yard Medley Relay – 3:54.65 (6th Place) … Favret, Brynn Driscoll (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley), Meghan Terwilliger (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) and Kottakis recorded their best time of the year to place sixth. Favret's split of 57.23 breaks Gannon's school record in the 100-yard backstroke.
Taraska – 200-Yard Freestyle – 1:57.02 (8th Place) … Taraska swam her career-best time of 1:55.21 in the prelims to reach the finals Thursday night.

ADDITIONAL GANNON RESULTS

Terwilliger finished 10th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.74.
Driscoll clocked a career-best time of 4:43.96 in the finals of the 400-yard IM to place 14th. She swam a time of 4:45.27 in the prelims Thursday morning.
Marissa Scott (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) also reached the finals in the 400-yard IM, where she placed 21st with a time of 4:47.76. She recorded a personal-best time of 4:46.10 in the prelims.
Jillian Pritchard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) (14th, 1:56.43), Hubert (15th, 1:56.56) and Kottakis (16th, 1:57.32) also reached the finals in the 200-yard freestyle.

EVENT NOTES

Favret broke Gannon's 100-yard backstroke record with a time of 57.23 in the 400-yard medley relay. The previous record of 57.46 was set by Favret last season.

The PSAC Championships continue Friday, February 23 with the third day of action.
Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m.
