Gannon’s Driscoll Leads Lady Knights with Two Podium Finishes on Opening Day of PSAC Championships

Event: 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Women's Swimming Championships
Location: Graham Aquatic Center – York, Pa.
Competing Teams: Bloomsburg, Clarion, California (Pa.), East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), Gannon, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Shippensburg, Millersville and West Chester
Result: Gannon sits seventh out of 12 teams
The Short Story: Rookie Brynn Driscoll (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) led the Gannon women's swimming team on the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard IM. Driscoll also swam a leg of Gannon's 200-yard medley relay team that placed eighth with a time of 1:48.08.

GANNON'S INDIVIDUAL PODIUM FINISHES

Brynn Driscoll (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) – 200-Yard IM – 2:12.49 (8th Place) … Driscoll recorded Gannon's first podium-finish of the PSAC Championships Wednesday night. The rookie swam her career-best time of 2:10.33 in the prelims to qualify for the finals.
200-Yard Medley Relay – 1:48.08 (8th Place) … Samantha Favret (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown), Brynn Driscoll (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley), Meghan Terwilliger (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) and Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic) hit their best time of the season to earn a podium-finish in the first relay event of the PSAC Championships.

ADDITIONAL GANNON RESULTS

Freshman Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic) reached the finals in the 50-yard freestyle and placed 13th (24.40) after clocking a personal-best time of 24.31 in the morning's prelims.
Rookie Celia Kottakis (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) also qualified for the finals in the 50-yard free. She placed 15th in the event with a time of 24.53.
Junior Courteney Hubert (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) was Gannon's third swimmer who reached the 50-yard freestyle finals. She hit a season-best time of 24.56 to place 17th.
Senior Makayla Williams (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) (32nd, 11:14.42) and junior Abby Printz (Irwin, Pa./Penn Trafford) (34th, 11:17.28) both clocked career-best times in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

The PSAC Championships continue Thursday, February 22 with the second day of action.
Prelims begin at 10 a.m. with the finals scheduled for 6 p.m.
