Gannon Women’s Water Polo Loses a Pair of Games at Bison Invitational

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's water polo team dropped a close contest to Saint Francis (Pa.) Sunday morning at the Bison Invitational, 9-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saint Francis scored the only goal of the first period 3:50 into the contest.
  • Alison Cooney (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) put the Lady Knights on the board in the second period on a pass from Lizzie Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy). The Red Flash closed out the period with back-to-back goals to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.
  • Gannon outscored Saint Francis 4-3 in the third period. Campbell Ruh (Walnut, Calif./Lutheran High School of Orange County) scored two goals during the run, while Liz Barr (Honolulu, Hawaii/'Iolani School) and Cooney gave the Lady Knights one goal apiece.
  • Barr tied it up at 6-6 just 47 seconds into the fourth period. The Red Flash outscored the Lady Knights 3-1 down the stretch to win it, 9-7.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Cooney wrapped up the game with three goals on three shots.  
  • Barr led Gannon in scoring on two goals and two assists. She also had two steals.
  • Ruh scored two goals on six shots, while adding an assist.
  • Isabelle Vieira (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) made five saves in goal.

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's water polo team wrapped up the Bison Invitational Sunday afternoon with an 11-9 loss to Siena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Siena opened the game on a two-goal run, but Ruh and Francis Williamson scored goals for Gannon to make it 2-2 at the end of the first.
  • The Lady Knights outscored the Saints 5-4 in the second period to take a 7-6 lead at the break. Barr had a pair of goals, while Sydney Fountain (Okemos, Mich./Okemos), Ruh and Cooney tallied one apiece.
  • Siena tied up the game in the third period with a 3-2 advantage. Ruh and Cooney scored goals for the Lady Knights.
  • The Saints recorded two fourth-period goals and held the Lady Knights scoreless to win, 11-9.
