Brett Rehrer Sets GU All-Time Saves Record; Men’s Water Polo Posts Two Wins

  • The Short Story: Senior goalie Brett Rehrer (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) etched his name in the Gannon record books as the all-time saves leader in program history with 22 stops against Salem while Zarko Sadikovic (Nis, Serbia/GTS Neimar) netted eight goals to propel Gannon to a 17-6 victory in the Golden Knights opening match of the 2018 CWPA DII Championships in Illinois.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • B. Rehrer set the new Gannon record for career saves at 1,002.
  • Gannon and Salem were knotted at three after the first quarter.
  • Gannon scored the next eight goals, with seven coming in the second quarter to seize control of the game.
  • The Golden Knights followed it up with seven of the next nine goals to earn the 17-6 victory.
 
GAME NOTES
  • B. Rehrer passed head coach Sean Morphy on the all-time career saves. Morphy played for Gannon from 2001-04 and previously held the record with 993 saves.
  • Robert Bolmanski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) added seven goals and four steals for Gannon.
  • Riley Hinkley (Meshoppen, Pa./Princeton) posted six goals for the Golden Knights while Tim Baer (San Diego, Calif./Classical Academy) and Thomas Squeglia (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) had four goals each in a balanced offensive effort.
  • B. Rehrer led the Golden Knights with a game-high seven assists.
  • The Golden Knights never trailed in the game.

  • The Short Story: Gannon remained undefeated and pushed its undefeated record to 15-0 with a low-scoring 10-6 win over host McKendree in the nightcap. Brett Rehrer (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) made 15 saves and Tony Squeglia scored three goals.
