LaCava Records First-Career Double-Double in Lady Knights Five-Point Setback at East Stroudsburg

  • The Short Story: Gannon Women's Basketball fell just short, 54-49, at East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Dec. 9, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest. Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) paced the Lady Knights with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon opened the game with back-to-back buckets from Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory). Her layup and three-pointer had the Lady Knights on top, 5-0.
  • Gannon doubled up East Stroudsburg, 14-7, after a Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) triple at the 2:54 mark of the first quarter.
  • The Warriors began to chip away at the lead in the second quarter. East Stroudsburg took the lead, 24-23, with 2:01 remaining in the half.
  • East Stroudsburg took a 32-25 lead to halftime after finishing the second quarter on a 14-2 run.
  • Gannon began to claw back in the third quarter. A pair of LaCava free throws trimmed the lead to three, 36-33.
  • A Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) three-pointer had the Lady Knights within two, 43-41, at the end of the third quarter.
  • Both teams went cold to begin the final period. Neither team scored in the opening 2:22 of the quarter. A Noelle Powell jumper broke the drought with 7:38 remaining in the game.
  • Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) got the Lady Knights back to within one possesion, 45-42, after splitting a pair of free throws at the 5:57 mark of the fourth quarter.
  • East Stroudsburg followed with a 6-1 run that had the Warriors up 51-43 with just 78 ticks left on the clock.
  • The Warriors sealed the game with three free throws, winning, 54-49.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon converted 17 of its 60 shots, a 28.3 percent clip. East Stroudsburg went 22 of 60 from the field (36.7%).
  • The Lady Knights out-rebounded  its second consecutive opponent and third of the season, 47-36.
  • LaCava paced the Lady Knights with her first career double-double (16 pts & 10 reb.)
  • Gannon made more free throws (8-5) and three-pointers (7-5) than East Stroudsburg. 
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • LaCava's double-double was the first of her career, including career-highs in both points (16) and rebounds (11).
  • Gannon still leads the all-time record, 9-3.
  • Rourke tallied her ninth double-digit scoring game of the season with 10 points against the Warriors.
