Top-Seeded Gannon Men's Water Polo Advances to MAWPC-West Region Championship Match with Pair of Victories

  • The Short Story: The Gannon Men's Water Polo collected an opening round victory against Washington & Jefferson, 17-2, at the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference-West Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon shutout Washington & Jefferson in the first quarter, 5-0. Gilberto Millan (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Jose) got the scoring started with a goal just 51 seconds into the match.
  • The Golden Knights issued five more goals in the second quarter, two of which came from Millan. Zarko Sadikovic (Nis, Serbia/GTS Neimar) ended the half with a score to put Gannon up 10-0 at halftime.
  • Millan tallied his fourth and final goal at the beginning of the third quarter to get second-half scoring underway.
  • Ethan Hamp (Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben) just beat the buzzer to end the third quarter, netting a goal with one second remaining.
  • Lucas Petzold (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville), Vladmir Diaz and Jack Donnelly (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) scored for Gannon in the fourth quarter as the Golden Knights took the match, 17-2.
     
MATCH NOTES
  • Gannon connected on 17-of-41 from the field, 3-of-5 on powerplays.
  • Washington & Jefferson shot 2-of-24 overall and 0-of-2 on powerplays.
  • Millan and Sadikovic led Gannon with four goals.

  • The Golden Knights held on to its two-goal at the end of the first quarter, 3-1.
  • Nick Williams (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island) and Jake Rehrer (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) tallied goals to open up the GU lead to four, 5-1.
  • Gannon went to halftime with a 7-5 advantage.
  • Jack Donnelly (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Williams each tallied goals in the third quarter for the Golden Knights.
  • Gannon went to the final period up 9-7.
  • The Golden Knights outscored La Salle 3-2 in the final period, getting a pair of goals from Williams.
