Gannon Women's Swimming and Diving Team in Third Place After First Day of Allegheny Gator Invitational

THE RUNDOWN

Event: Allegheny Gator Invitational (Meadville, Pa.)
Competing Teams: Allegheny, Edinboro, Gannon and Lock Haven.
Result: Gannon sits in third place out of four teams after the first day with 181 points.
The Short Story: Three Lady Knights recorded Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times in the 50-yard freestyle and Gannon finished second in three events as the Lady Knights sit in third place out of four teams after the first day of the Allegheny Gator Invitational on Friday.

200-Yard Freestyle Relay Team - Freshman Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic), sophomore Ashley Rega (Independence, Ohio/Independence), freshman Celia Kottakis (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and junior Courteney Hubert (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) placed third with a time of one minute and 40.9 seconds.
Jillian Pritchard (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) - Finished runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of five minutes and 31.02 seconds.
Marissa Scott (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) - Placed third in the 200-yard IM with a time of two minutes and 18.8 seconds.
Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic) - Finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a PSAC-qualifying time of 25.11 seconds ... was 0.22 seconds behind the winner.
400-Yard Medley Relay Team - The group of redshirt senior Samantha Favret (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown), freshman Lilija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic), senior Meghan Terwilliger (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) and freshman Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic) finished second with a time of four minutes and 4.14 seconds ... was only 0.10 second shy of the title.

EVENT NOTES

The Allegheny Gator Invitational is a two-day event, concluding Saturday.
Friday's action included 10 swimming events and one men's diving event.
Gannon finished second out of three teams at last year's event hosted by Allegheny. The event was called the Erie Cup last year, before Lock Haven joined the field this season.
