HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • After three scoreless innings, Slippery Rock scored the only run it would need during the bottom of the fourth inning. A single to the outfield, bunt single, sacrifice bunt and infield single produced the run.
  • Gannon had a chance to tie the contest in the seventh. Freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) led off with a single and moved to second base on a ground-out. However, she was later thrown out at third on a ground ball for the final out.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Smith finished with Gannon's only two hits, going 2-for-3.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on seven hits. She struck out seven and walked one.

  • The Lady Knights extended their lead to 2-0 in the sixth. Junior Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) reached on an infield single and later scored with two outs on a passed ball.
  • Slippery Rock rallied to tie the contest with two unearned runs during its half of the sixth inning. The tying run scored from third base on a foul out.
  • Gannon answered immediately during its next at-bat. Salerno led off the top of the seventh inning with a single to center field. She moved around the bases on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower) and single by Smith. Salerno then scored the game-winning run on Bates' sacrifice fly to center field.
