  • The Short Story: No. 9 California (Pa.) limited Gannon to six hits in two games as the Vulcans swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader Saturday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium. The Lady Knights dropped both games on Senior Day by scores of 4-0 and 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • California (Pa.) scored first with a pair of runs during the top of the second inning.
  • The Vulcans added insurance runs during the sixth and seventh innings.
  • Cal starter Alex Sagl was nearly untouchable as Gannon's lone hit came on a single to left field by freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) in the fourth inning.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) went the distance on the mound, striking out eight and walking four in seven innings.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • California (Pa.) is ranked No. 9 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 20 Poll.
  • Gumbita tossed her 19th complete game of the campaign and 42nd of her career.
  • Saturday was Senior Day as Gannon honored Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Alison Benz (Orchard Park, N.Y./Mount Mercy Academy), Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) and Sarah DiOrio (Hunker, Pa./Hempfield Area) during pregame festivities.
  • Gumbita struck out at least eight hitters for the sixth time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • California (Pa.) jumped out to a 5-0 lead with two runs during the first inning and three in the second.
  • Gannon countered with its first run of the afternoon during the bottom of the second inning. Singles by sophomore Nathaly Pacheco (Rialto, Calif./Eisenhower), Archambeault and sophomore Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) produced the run.
  • California (Pa.) extended its lead to 7-1 with a pair of runs in the fifth.
  • Archambeault's two-out, RBI double to left center in the sixth capped the scoring.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Archambeault went 2-for-3 with one RBI, recording two of Gannon's five hits.
  • Freshman Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) started the game on the mound, logging two innings.
  • Benz tossed the final five innings out of the bullpen, allowing two runs on three hits.
