  • The Short Story: The No. 13 California (Pa.) softball team extended its win streak to 21 games Saturday afternoon with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division doubleheader sweep of Gannon at Lilley Field.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon drew first blood when junior Jen Moran (West Mifflin, Pa./Fox Chapel) blasted a two-out home run to center field during the top of the first inning.
  • However, the Lady Knights would be unable to get another hit the rest of the game.
  • Meanwhile, California (Pa.) took the lead with two runs during the bottom of the first inning.
  • The Vulcans posted three runs in the third inning, before a four-run spot in the sixth stopped the game due to the eight-run rule.
  • California (Pa.) starting pitcher Alex Sagl retired the final 10 Lady Knights, setting Gannon down in order during the final three innings.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Moran's home run was Gannon's lone hit of the game.
  • Freshman Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was given the game one starting assignment for the first time this season, dropping to 2-6. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • California (Pa.) is ranked 13th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 20 Poll.
  • Saturday's doubleheader was a rematch of last year's PSAC Championship Game.
  • Moran's home run was her third of the season and seventh of her career.
  • Perich recorded her fifth complete game of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon threatened early. The Lady Knights put runners on second and third during their first at-bat, but were unable to push a run across the plate.
  • California (Pa.) tallied the contest's only run during the bottom of the first inning on Lindsay Reicoff's seventh home run of the season to right field.
  • Gannon had a runner reach third base with one out in the sixth, but failed to score after a strikeout and fly-out.
  • The Lady Knights had another chance with runners on first and second in the seventh, but Sagl came out of the bullpen to record the final out.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) went 3-for-3 out of the lead-off spot.
  • Junior Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) went the distance on the mound, tossing a four-hit complete game. She struck out one and walked one.

  • California (Pa.) is ranked 13th in the latest NFCA Top 20 Poll.
  • Saturday's doubleheader was a rematch of last year's PSAC Championship Game.
  • Martinez went 3-for-3 in the nightcap for the second consecutive day while recording her team-best seventh multiple-hit game of the season. She produced three hits in a game for the third time this year.
  • Gumbita recorded her 36th career complete game and 13th of the campaign.
  • In the process, Gumbita went over the 300-inning plateau for her career.
