HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon scored the contest's only run during the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) led off with a single up the middle and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Alyssa Bates (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield). After advancing to third on a single by senior Alexa Archambeault (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), she scored on senior Rachel deGuia's (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) suicide squeeze.
  • Mercyhurst had a great chance to tie the game in the seventh after Cassandra Egleston led off with a double and moved to third on an error. However, Gumbita was able to snag a pop-up bunt on a suicide squeeze attempt and doubled Egleston off third. One out later, the Lady Knights celebrated a 1-0 victory.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Moran recorded two of Gannon's five hits as the lead-off hitter.
  • Gumbita tossed a complete-game shutout, scattering 10 hits. She struck out four and walked one.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tuesday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed due to cold temperatures.
  • Gannon won its second 1-0 decision of the season, duplicating its win against Tiffin at the National Center Training (NTC) Games on February 29.
  • Gumbita recorded her 14th complete game and fifth shutout of the season.
  • Moran recorded her fourth multiple-hit game of the campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon grabbed a 1-0 lead during the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) reached on a walk. After two outs, she stole second and scored on Perich's single to center field.
  • The Lady Knights extended their lead to 2-0 in the fifth. Smith led off with a double to right center. Two outs later, Martinez singled down the left field line to score Smith.
  • Mercyhurst cut the deficit in half during the top of the sixth and threatened to tie the contest. The Lakers had runners on second and third, before Perich struck out Carly Konopka to end the threat.
  • Gannon added an insurance run during its half of the frame. The sequence started with another lead-off double. This one came off the bat of Archambeault. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland), she scored on a ball hit into right field by deGuia.
  • Mercyhurst rallied again during the top of the seventh. The Lakers put the tying runs on base, but Perich caught a line drive back to the mound for the final out.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Smith finished 1-for-1 with two runs, one walk and one stolen base out of the ninth spot of the line-up.
  • Perich allowed one run on six hits while throwing a complete game. She struck out four and walked two.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tuesday's doubleheader was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but was postponed due to cold temperatures.
  • Perich tossed her sixth complete game of the season.
  • Smith scored multiple runs in a game for the first time this year.
  • Gannon swept the regular-season four-game series from Mercyhurst for the first time since the two programs began a four-game format in 2008.
  • The Lady Knights have won seven of eight games from the Lakers during the last two seasons.
