HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon opened a 9-0 lead after four innings during the opener. Senior Chris Beer (Burlington, Ontario/M.M. Robinson) started the scoring with a two-out solo home run to left field during the bottom of the second inning.
  • The Golden Knights extended their lead to 5-0 with a four-run third inning. Sophomore Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) doubled home the first run. After a sacrifice fly by redshirt freshman Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin), sophomore Kyle Cox's (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) RBI single increased the lead to 4-0. A Beer RBI double capped the inning, giving the home team a 5-0 advantage.
  • Gannon busted the game wide open with four more runs in the fourth. Benack's bases-loaded, two-run single ignited the rally. Cardy and Cox followed with RBI singles to push the lead to 9-0.
  • Both teams produced two runs during the fifth inning. Redshirt senior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) tripled home Gannon's first run of the fifth and later scored on Cardy's single through the left side.
